It seems like so many years ago that the door to door salesperson thrived in America. Now, with the advent of Facebook and Youtube, QVC and the Shopping Network, the digital age has left the door to door salesperson behind. One local business owner has not forgotten the past, and has opted to do something a little outside the box. Instead of television and radio commercials, Gary Rife, owner of the North York chapter of Liberty Tax Service, has opted to step out, and get to know the people in his community. There is an old adage in business, "To get the community to know you, you must get involved with them." Gary and the employees of Liberty Tax have taken that to heart. To spread the word about their services they have opted to go out in the community, going door to door, offering to pick up any non-perishable food items that people would like to donate to the York County Food Bank, and offering a coupon for their services. You may have seen them before. They are the ones pounding the pavement dressed in the Statue of Liberty costumes. Their unorthodox practice is paying off. So far they have managed to gather more then 130 pounds of food for the York County Food Bank, and they are not planning on stopping any time soon. So, if you happen to have someone stop by your home, don't be surprised to see a Statue of Liberty on your door step. They are standing in the cold to spread a little warmth in York City.
