Volunteers from across York County met each other for the first time and quickly formed teams to make a difference at York County Food Bank's May 22 Make a Difference Day event. "We've always relied on volunteers to sort donated food," said Assistant Director Deb Eichelberger. She explained that volunteers help keep the cost of doing business lower. "Our CSFP senior food box program has grown to where Food Bank employees can no longer meet the demand. Volunteers are invaluable to us."
Junior League members, Central High School students, and the Junior Youth Group from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in York worked at checking expiration dates on donated food, sorting mixed food into categories, packing boxes of food for distribution to low-income senior citizens, and breaking down cardboard boxes for recycling. "There are jobs for all ages and they are all important" said Executive Director Jon Fisher.
The next Make A Difference Day is scheduled for Saturday June 26, 2010 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
