Senior Box Program Now Accepting New Applicants

By Jeremy Swiger

Are you, or someone you know a senior citizen in need of food assistance? Due to a recent increase in funding we are now able to accept more local seniors into our Senior Box Program. These senior boxes, which are distributed monthly, will provide necessary supplemental groceries for those in need providing them with a range of necessities.

Each senior box includes: two boxes of cereal or a single bag of oatmeal, a jar of peanut butter, three cans or two large bottles of fruit juice, four cans of vegetables, two cans of fruit, a package of pasta, two boxes of self stable milk, one container of a protein (tuna, chicken, or pork, and beef,) and a two pound block of cheese.

To be eligible, seniors must be age 60 or older, and have an income below 130% of the federal poverty income guidelines. This means that a family of one must have an annual income of $14,079 or less, while a family of two must have an annual income of $18,941 or less. Families of three would have to have an income of $23,803 a year. If your family size is larger than three, please contact the York County Food bank for income information.
