Special Saturday Hours a Big Success

As many know we hold Special Saturday hours once a month to pack Senior Boxes. Each month a group of volunteers come in to help us prepare 696 boxes, which are then sent out to distribution partners throughout the county. Originally starting with a very small group, this monthly event has grown substantially. We have gone from packing a little over 300 senior boxes to just shy of 700 each month, with more people signing up to potentially receive these senior boxes.

To pack all of these senior boxes it takes a group of hard working volunteers, and York County has really stepped up in that regard, as well. Each month about twenty volunteers show up bright and early in the morning to help out. Local business, organizations, and even whole families work together to get the job done, sometimes signing up for the event as far ahead as a month in advance.

The event has become so popular that we have had groups asking for us to create other Saturday events. Whether it be packing senior boxes, sorting food, or just helping clean up and maintain the York County Food Bank, people across the county are willing to give up their Saturdays to help those in need in York County. We would like to thank all of our volunteers who give up their "free" days to volunteer with us.
