York County Food Bank has joined the more than 2,000 food banks and pantries across all 50
states that are members of AmpleHarvest.org.
While 49 million Americans who are food insecure usually cannot get fresh produce at a food pantry,
many of the more than 40 million Americans who grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and nuts in their home
gardens find that they grow more produce that they can use, preserve or give to friends.
“Home grown produce has always been welcome at York County Food Bank,” says Assistant Director
Deb Eichelberger, adding “from a bag full to a pick-up truck full, fresh vegetables are highly popular.”
AmpleHarvest.org was created to help gardeners who want to share their bounty with the hungry in
their community, but could not find a food bank or pantry nearby. AmpleHarvest.org Founder Gary
Oppenheimer says, “Not every grower is lucky enough to have a bountiful harvest, but for those who
are, donating the excess is a wonderful way to help their neighbors in need without spending a dime.”
AmpleHarvest.org works to diminish hunger in America by enabling gardeners to easily find a local food
bank or food pantry eager to receive their garden bounty. For more information, visit

York County Food Bank distributes food through a network of pantries, cupboards, kitchens, shelters,
