York, PA - Who: Eight high-school students who participate in the Ignite Youth Group at St. Joseph's and St. Patrick's parishes in Springettsbury Township and York, respectively, are volunteering their time in the city.
What: The youths in grades 9 through 12 participate in the annual three-day event called Mission Days. The theme this year is Kingdom Come.
When: On Wednesday, the teens volunteered at the Pregnancy & Family Resource Center in York sorting and organizing donations. Members of the group also volunteered at the York County Food Bank, Bell Socialization, St. Patrick's School, St. Mary's Church and Catholic Charities.
Why: The annual service project is a chance for the members of the combined youth group to give back to the community, said Pat Juliana, co-coordinator of Mission Days.
"Some kids have never been to York at all," Juliana said. "I think it shows them what is out there, so they are more grateful for what they have."
