SHARE Program

No good deed goes unrewarded. This is the simple idea that the SHARE Program has built itself around. The Self-Help And Resource Exchange, or SHARE Program, is the newest of the many programs the York County Food Bank engages in. The program offers different grocery packages at extremely discounted rates, some in excess of 50% off. What are the requirements for signing up? "If you eat, you qualify."

The system is pretty simple. An individual can purchase discount groceries to feed their families. This program is meant to help the families who would normally fall through the cracks due to income guidelines, as well as anyone who just wants to save money on groceries while doing a good deed. There are no minimum or maximum incomes. The only requirement is that to place an order you must have completed 2 hours of community service per month. Although volunteers are always appreciated, you do not have to do your community service at the York County Food Bank. Volunteering at your church or in your neighborhood are all perfectly acceptable options. For those out of work this can be a big help in making sure the finances don't fall apart, while at the same time making sure there is enough food on the table for everyone to have enough to eat. This is a great option for everyone who is looking to spend less in groceries, and getting signed up is simple. Best of all, this is not a hand out, it's a leg up.

The program will begin during the first week of August. The York County Food Bank will be working as both a host site, distributing the food to the participants, as well as a satellite site, distributing the boxes of food to the other host sites across York County. During a short initiation period, we will limit the number of host sites we work with until we are able to perfect the system. After that time, more host sites will be added. Orders are placed at your local host site with payment being due at the same time the products are ordered. A week later they will be available for pick up. There is no limit to the number of items or packages you can purchase, as long as you do the required two hours of community service prior to ordering. Participants will be able to use food stamps, SNAP, Visa and Mastercard, or cash.

These are not donated products or short code items. Each of the items are quality, fresh items meant to provide wholesome meals. For more information or for a list of distribution partners carrying the program call 717-846-6435.
