What does it take to get 3,200 boxes of food and household items packed in one day?
· Knowing that you’re putting food into the hands of hungry families with children?
· Donuts and coffee?
· Roller conveyors?
· Knowing that if you’re efficient and fast, you’ll get paid for 8 hours even if the job only takes 6?
· Easy listening music – you want to get out of there before the songs get stuck in your brain?
· Timing…rhythm…teamwork?
Whatever their motivation, volunteers, York County Food Bank staff, and temporary workers from Master Staffing showed up at 7:15 am on a beautiful summer Saturday to assemble boxes, label boxes, pack boxes, and push them down the line to be taped shut, stacked just so, and moved to the warehouse for the second month in a row.
Twenty-one food pantries across York County will put the boxes into the hands of hungry families for a second time beginning Monday August 2!
Food pantry staff and volunteers had lots to say after the first delivery of boxes in July:
You should see the smiles when people receive the boxes.
We never have personal care and household items to distribute…this is terrific.
I thought this program would be too much trouble. We had to find a temporary location where we could take delivery of the boxes. It was worth the effort. People really need food and they are grateful to get it.
