The York County Public School Food Drive Competition has come to a close. Originally known as the Orange and Black Competition, the food drive has pitted one school against another to see who can gather the most non-perishable food items to be distributed amongst food pantries throughout York County. Started by Bob Weikert, the competition is in its second year, and running strong. The kids managed to double their collective food donation weight from last year. This year, a total of three schools got involved: York Suburban, Central York, and York High School.

The Future of the Black and Orange Competition
This year the number of schools in the competition doubled. The total weight of the donated food totaled over 10,600 lbs, a significant jump over last year. As Jon Fisher, Executive Officer of the York County Food Bank summed up, "you were able to make sure everyone in York County was able to eat tomorrow." Although the competition is only in it's second year, the competition is getting heated amongst the schools, and everyone is looking forward to next year's competition.
Several changes will be put in effect for next year's competition. The awards ceremony will take place at Central York School District instead of at the York County Food Bank. Just like this year, a handicap will be put in place to make sure that the competition is fair. Check back in for more changes and additional information on the Black and Orange Competition.
